Babies and belly buttons

A few weeks ago, we pulled in to the Payless parking lot and proceeded to get out of the car. When Mooka got out of the car, in a moment of complete randomness, she nearly burst into tears explaining how she did not want to get married.

ME: Okay, sweet heart. No one is going to force you to get married. May I ask why?

MOO: Well, when you get married you have babies and I don't want to have babies.

ME: Okay.

MOO: I'm going to just live with you forever.

Baby Bear: Yeah, me too.

I thought it was a sweet conversation and moved on.

Tonight, in another moment of randomness, she starts naming the different phases in a person's life - baby, kid, teenager, mom, grandma. I said, well sometimes people are adults and don't become a mom. Which must have triggered her adamant opposition to marriage and babies again, because she started in on "I don't want to have babies."

ME: Honey, why don't you want to have babies?

MOO: Because when you have babies, your belly button stinks.

ME: My belly button smelled like that before I had babies.

MOO: Pause...Mom you are so gross!

How was your day?

It's the standard question that I ask when we sit down to eat dinner. I usually follow it with, what did you do today?

The typical response that I get from the girl is "good and nothing."

The boy, however, tends to be a bit more unpredictable. His days are much more adventurous and he usually ends it with "and we ate green beans for lunch."

Yesterday, was no exception.

Me: How was your day?

BB: Good. The teacher brought in baby polar bears and then they got angry and scratched off the teacher's faces. Then we played with them. Then we had meatloaf and mashed potatoes.

Me: Silent.

BB:Oh, and we had green beans.

Me: Of course.

First day of school 1.4

Today is the real first full day of school - YAY!

On a side note, I have really begun to enjoy the time alone that Baby Bear and I have in the car alone after we drop Mooka off at school. There are about 7 miles between her school and his, so we have a little bit of bonding time.

This mornings conversation went like this...

Both of us were singing along with the radio.

BB: Mom, how do babies get in mommies bellies.

Me: I'm sorry, what?

BB: How do the babies get in the bellies.

Me: Honey, why do you want to know.

BB: Because I want to know how them get in the bellies.

Me: Because Jesus puts them there.

BB: Okay!

Silence the rest of the way to school.

Where do they come up with these things and what in the world was going through his little head that made THAT the question for the morning?!

O to be a boy

Me: Why did you just pee on the floor?

BB: Because I had to go.

Me: We have a toilet for that.

Me: (removing his wet pants) Now, take off your underwear and get cleaned up.

BB: But I didn’t pee in my underwear.

Me: What? (feeling underwear) How in the world did you manage that?

BB: The pee came out of the tunnel in my underwear.

Me: (dumbfounded)

Sunday morning quotes

This morning when I picked the kids up from Sunday school, BB exclaimed (in front of a full room of other kids and teachers):

BB: Mommy, I didn't poop my pants today.

Me: Well, great!

I have no clue why he would have considered this a victory today as we don't currently consider it an issue.

Once we got back to the car, we did our normal questioning about what did you learn today. Apparently, it was about being a good servant so A. asked what that means.

Moo: I told everyone that I go down to the basement and help Daddy look for mice so Mommy doesn't have to.

At least our reputation is consistent wherever we go.

Blogged out

Either my kids have become completely normal, or I'm in a blogging rut. I feel like we've constantly been busy, I've just not stopped to document any of it. I'll try to do better this week.

In the meantime, I leave you with this.

Quote of the week from the past week:

"You and Daddy can have the healthy food. We want the disgusting stuff, so can we please go to McDonalds?"

BB after I picked him up from school on Friday. (Side note: we have not had fast food since January and they are going through withdrawals.)

Here are a couple of pics from a recent trip to Monkey Joes with our friends...

And finally, I leave you with a consumer report on sleeping masks. You must get one. During a recent trip for work, I picked one up at the airport and it was truly life changing. So when I got home, I shared my secret with Fatty Fat Fat and she gave it an A+.

Sometimes they are really sweet

Tonight at dinner, Mooka asked me to tell her about my best friend. Shortly afterward, Baby Bear shouts out "You're my best friend!" to his sister.

Seriously, could this kid get any sweeter?

And to think, I felt she may be missing out by not having a sister.

Snow...finally!

I think we live in one of the only places in the mid-west that has not enjoyed snow this season. I grew up in this area and always remember having snow in the winter, but that stinkin' global warming has really cut us off from that in recent years. So, when we got our snow this week, I took advantage of it by taking a day off from work.

The first day, we only had about 3 inches in the front yard to enjoy. A. and I took turns pulling the kids on their sleds. Baby Bear, who is definitely been sent to motivate me on my weight loss journey, asked me to get on the sled so he could pull me. Knowing that he would have some commentary, I hesitated but decided to give it a shot.

BB: Mommy, let me pull you.
Me: K, you sure?
BB: Yup!
Me: Okay, show me your muscles!
BB: (Pulling)
BB: (Tugging)
BB: (Looks to the sky and I knew it was coming) Dear Jesus, I'm not going to be able to pull this thing. The End.
Me: (wondering why we taught the children to talk)

I was also able to get a couple of cute pics. This first one is of Baby Bear two years ago.

Compared to my little guy today, complete with Napoleon Dynamite moon boots...

And yes, that is a Christmas decoration on the door still. Shut it.

Princess Moo (who absolutely fell to the ground crying when A. hit her with a snow ball, but had no issue pelting us)

Right before we went outside to play, everyone had to take a nap including A., who tends to like to sleep a good hour longer than the rest of us. When I asked, Mooka if he was awake yet, she responded with this...

Moo: He's not awake. I put him under a sleeping spell.
Me: Can you undo that spell?
Moo: Nope, you have to go kiss him.
Me: (Glare)
Moo: Um, maybe not. How about if you just touch him with your finger.
Me: Done!

I'm pretty sure this will be it for the snow this season, but it was fun while it lasted.

Quotes heard throughout the past week

Sometimes I'm thankful to have children simply for the amusement that they bring me. In the past week, I have had the pleasure of hearing the following in our home:

"Fire in the hole!" - Shouted from Baby Bear to me as I was in the kitchen burning cooking breakfast for the family.

"But I didn't use my hands" - Baby Bear after returning from the bathroom and responding to A.'s question "Did you wash." He's become quite the Commode Houdini. If you come to my house to visit, I don't recommend you actually sit on the toilet.

"But it's not big right now." - This is a pretty common Baby Bear response to me telling him to go to the bathroom in the morning.

"I need to get me some boobies." - Mooka's response to me asking why she was trying on my bras.

I'm sure I'm forgetting more of them. I'll have to start writing them down as they happen.
